Oct 11, 2010 - The second Gran/Medio/Piccolo Fondo mass bike ride, a project of professional bike rider Levi Leipheimer, took place two days ago starting and ending in west Santa Rosa.
I was working the King Ridge rest stop where these pictures were taken, and Joanna was at the Portuguese Beach stop. When Vince came by he hunted down both of us and said howdy.
The lemonade stand was a hoot; Jake set it up. His son is the one on the wooden push cycle. Note the after-market hand brake on it.
The weather was warm as the day wore on, but this year it wasn't windy: a big plus. Levi and Odessa stopped at King Ridge for awhile and both were interviewed.
There was one helicopter med-evac; the rider, holding up his own I.V. fluid, was carried past the snacks tent on a back board to a waiting helicopter (no pictures of that unfortunate event - I was cutting the tops off of strawberries).
The rest stop was open almost to 2:30, an hour past the planned closing, but by then all the riders that weren't going to take the sag wagon back had streamed through.
